LFA 2024 Destinations:

Bromley

Bromley is known as London’s largest borough, and it is the distinctiveness of its towns and neighbourhoods which make it what it is today. From Penge to Bromley Town Centre, Chislehurst to Orpington, and Darwin, Bromley is a rich tapestry of creative communities and cultures.

Bromley Town Centre has preserved its market town roots at the heart of old borough, building this into the vibrant high street seen today, that has recently been selected as one of London’s Night Time Enterprise Zones.

To the north, the welcoming Chislehurst village has a diverse range of communal spaces to explore, from The Commons and Chislehurst Caves to the elegant Royal Parade and bustling High Street. Named after Charles Darwin, Darwin has a legacy of historic heritage nestled amongst its more rural backdrop displaying some of Bromley’s most vibrant green spaces.

The Orpington Priory and Broomhill conservation areas showcase Orpington’s architectural heritage, whilst the town centre provides a plethora of commercial and cultural spaces. After being a key Destination at last year’s Festival, Penge is featured once again, giving visitors the chance to explore the Victorian architecture surrounding its lively and modern high street.

Supported by London Borough of Bromley with The Chislehurst Society, Penge SE20, Orpington 1st and Your Bromley.

There is such a rich history to be explored across Bromley, especially through our beautiful buildings and spaces, so I am delighted that residents will again get the opportunity to explore such sites as part of the London Festival of Architecture.

This year, five distinct areas across the borough will be showcased, which collectively have shaped much of our borough’s distinct character and continue to do so as Bromley continues to grow and thrive.

It is with thanks to our Business Improvement Districts – Your Bromley, Orpington 1st and Penge SE20 BID, as well as Chislehurst Society, that we are able to deliver this exciting programme, with these organisations delivering much important work to enhance and sustain our borough.

I hope residents and visitors alike will take this opportunity to discover more about Bromley’s history, from its Kentish Market town roots to the grand Victorian and Georgian architecture that together with our green spaces make Bromley so unique.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing
