How do you modernise history? How Cameron Mackintosh reimagined 8 of London’s leading West End theatres

12 June 2024

17:45 -19:00

Join in-house architect Julian Middleton and Property Director Lee Winters as they discuss how theatre buildings are being reimagined for the 21st century with a Q&A session chaired by William Differ, Chief Operating Officer, and a drinks reception in The Sprague Terrace, the newest addition to the Delfont Mackintosh Theatres portfolio, inspired by unrealised designs of architect William Sprague from 1899.

Hear from the minds behind the magnificent restoration of the historic Victoria Palace Theatre in 2017 ahead of the European premiere of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Pulitzer Prize winning musical Hamilton. Plus, the complete refurbishment in 2019 of the newly heralded Sondheim Theatre, renamed in celebration of the composer Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday, which houses Les Misérables. Learn how the lasting impact of legendary theatre architects such as Frank Matcham continues to influence modern day design, leaving an architectural legacy for generations of theatre goers to come.
