Building on this year’s LFA theme ‘Reimagine’, the University of East London (UEL), in collaboration with AKTII Associate Nicolo Bencini, architect Antoniya Stoitsova, and with the support of Axalta Powder Coatings, invite you to join an interactive session exploring how we can reshape the construction industry though innovative and ultra-low carbon bio-based materials, imagining a healthier future for our built environment.
This one-day session will be organized in the cutting-edge Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability at UEL, as a hands-on workshop where participants will explore the potential of agricultural by-products mixed with different binders as innovative materials, creating their own bio-material samples. The materials will be cast in a particular geometry exploring the potential of thin shell structures on complex geometries. Powder colors and bio-based resins provided by Axalta will be available to complement the bio-material mix. All the materials and tools required to conduct the workshop will be provided by the organization.
The workshop will be led by UEL Academic practitioners Armor Gutierrez Rivas, Alan Chandler, Bamdad Ayati, and Oluchukwu Okonkwo, and it will be followed by an interactive session on carbon footprint calculation and a presentation on bio-resins led by Axalta.
