LAUNCH: Armadillo, CLT Sound Pavilion

09 June 2024

13:00 -19:00

The team behind the pavilion will host a series of small talks on innovations in timber construction. The afternoon of talks will be held in the team’s Armadillo pavilion, nestled on the beautiful waterside within the heart of Trinity Buoy Wharf in London.

The following talks will take place:

1:30pm - The Design and Build of the Armadillo
The team behind the pavilion will host a panel talk showcasing the research and design embedded within the pavilion’s design, innovations in prefabrication, CLT construction, and acoustic performance design. The talks align with the exhibition by the pavilion showcasing the design and build process. There will be a Q&A session afterwards, alongside a walk around the pavilion.

2:15pm - From Forest to Factory
A panel talk hosted by Xilonor on the future of cross-laminated timber, from the forest to the factory and beyond. The speakers will discuss the careful selection of timber and the development of a new material that pushes the limits of CLT production and usage. Learn about innovative solutions for dealing with timber construction and water, how the two can co-exist, and factors in design, future developments, and the path of mass timber. Finally, the transport of these materials is key to creating a truly sustainable industry that allows a new level of innovation in construction.

3:00pm - Demountability and Re-use
A panel discussion with experts on sustainable practices in timber construction, modular construction, prefabrication, and methods for the design of demountable timber components. The conversation will focus on questions around the demountability of timber structures to enhance circular economy principles and minimise waste. There will be a Q&A session afterwards, alongside a walk around the pavilion.

4:00pm - A Conversation with Longplayer
