Come and experience the fantastic world of mosaic restoration, with the Broadwater Farm Equality-Harmony mural conservation project!
The Equality Harmony mural was created in 1987 by Gülsün Erbil for and with the community, in the aftermath of the Broadwater Farm riot of 1985. The 18m high mural was listed by Historic England for its architectural and historic interest, and now with the necessary demolition of the Tangmere block, the mural has been carefully removed to a restoration facility, to be restored and relocated on the Estate.
Join us in the mural restoration facility on Broadwater Farm, to hear from conservation professionals, see mosaic restoration techniques, reimagine the mural by trying your hand at mosaic-making activities and get up close to local community history and public art.
The tour and workshop will run on Saturday 29 June, 10am-11.30am. There is limited capacity, so please follow the booking link to book your spaces.
There will be a panel talk from 12pm-1.30pm on ‘The Power of Community Art’ with the mosaic artist Gülsün Erbil, local community leader Clasford Stirling, and architect and director of Studio Gil, Pedro Gil. This will be in the Jazz Café, Broadwater Farm Community Centre, Adams Road, N17 6HG. This panel talk is open to all and will be a family friendly event with some drawing tables for kids, so please join us! To guarantee your free space please visit the booking link, or drop in.
