Workshops

Night Listenings

06 June 2024

20:30 -22:30

This workshop, led by researchers at We Made That, is a chance to explore ‘safe bubbles’ of walking as night falls, reflecting on and reimagining how atmospheres of joy, concern, kindness and worry are created and expanded.

We start and finish with short group walks, paying attending to qualities of dusk and dark in streets and parks. In between the two walks we will host a workshop on multi-sensory methods, recording and reflecting on experiences of urban landscapes in the evening and at night. Acknowledging that safety is a key concern for many London residents, we also introduce participatory approaches currently being developed to ensure diverse voices inform cross-sector initiatives on transport and public spaces.

The start and end point of the workshop is London Bridge Rail Station (entrance 2, Tooley Street). Walking activities will be in a group and approximately 1km each way. Workshop location will be outside, with under-cover options if raining.

The event includes two slowish walks of about 1km each way. These will be step-free and on pavements. The start and end point of the walks is at London Bridge rail station. The station is fully step free with accessible toilets including ‘Changing Places’. The location of the workshop is the We Made That offices/roof garden. This is less accessible, there are 3 flights of stairs and no accessible toilet. However, we are able to hold the workshop outside at ground level if a request is made at least three days in advance. toilet with level access will be available but it is not a fully accessible toilet. If doing the walk(s) is not possible we can arrange car parking at the office location with a 21.15 meet time for attendance at the workshop only.
