"We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us" - Winston Churchill
"Buildings are always ideological” - Slavoj Žižek
Join us for a provocative series of debates with Debate London, in the heart of the City of London.
The Square Mile has been a financial hub for London where Guilds affected how the City, its streets and its squares functioned and were shaped, through citizen exchange. Debate London seeks to revive this critical aspect of the Public Square by hosting a live public debate at Urban Radicals' Roundtable in Moorgate.
Topics will focus on national and local issues, that shape the built environment and what this means for inhabitants - from 'Flexible working and the push back to Office work in the City' to 'Should we Subsidise the High Street' and more. Debate London will also be opening topics of debate to the audience.
Remembering Churchill’s famous quote advocating for the House of Commons to be rebuilt as it was before the WW2 Blitz in order to preserve the two-party adversarial system of democracy attributed to two opposing benches, this series of debates will explore different spatial formats. These will test how the manner in which we discuss different ideas can shape the content of our beliefs.
The event is open to all who are interested in discussions on the future of London and its people.
