This summer, Brookfield Properties and Foster + Partners reimagine space and sustainability and present a captivating exploration of space and materiality with 'Radial', the new Principal Place Pavilion. This unique public installation is a dynamic performance space, inviting LFA audiences to engage with its architectural elements and fabric structures. Created by a team lead by partners Tom Bush, Associate Partner, Architect | ARB RIBA and Alex Szal, Architectural Assistant, alongside junior architects who contributed their innovative ideas to bring this special ephemeral project to life.
Centring on themes of sustainability, community, and urbanity, the temporary Summer Pavilion at Principal Place acts as a marker for the development and provides a shaded place to gather in its outdoor plaza. The pavilion’s legacy has been considered from the earliest stages of the design process. It is built from recycled construction materials, which will be put back into circulation or repurposed at the end of its life.
Curved wooden benches are made from refashioned scaffolding boards and support a series of tall flagpoles. Red, blue and white flags are arranged in a radial pattern above, communicating worsening climate change data over the past years. The pavilion offers a space for pause and reflection, while embodying a more sustainable way of designing and building.
Free and open to all, this installation celebrates the fusion of architecture and art while promoting sustainability in artistic practices.
Join us on 6 June, from 6 to 9 pm, at the launch of 'Radial' where entertainment will be provided, as we celebrate this remarkable fusion of sustainability, art, and community.
