The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Decision-making in Architecture

12 June 2024

18:30 -20:00

The narrative is that there are only good/bad architects that make good/bad choices. This evening covers the ground in between, leaving judgement at the door.

Part 1: Between the binary
How do we match design approach with project ambitions? dRMM introduces this as an overarching theme, leading to discussions like: how can we be climate conscious and build as much as we do? How do we negotiate intentions with budget, then remain a spokesperson for those decisions?

Part 2: The only project we can be truly honest about
Work is underway on dRMM’s new retrofitted studio. The team will highlight decisions demonstrating the aspiration vs. reality of how architecture is made.

Part 3: Unpacking the grey areas
Chaired by Sadie Morgan (dRMM), a panel of speakers including Ayo Abbas (Abbas Marketing), Hannah Farahar (British Land) and Neil Onions (Beyond the Box), will discuss prevalent issues that emerge in practice.

Attendees can arrive anytime from 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

There is no on site parking but there is residents on street parking right outside the pub which is free to use after 5pm. There is a small ramp to the entrance as there are some small steps, same to the toilet. For the quiet space the pub can make a side room available for this but it would not be silent as it's next door to the main venue area.
