The Home As a Tool for Publicness

12 June 2024

18:00 -20:00

In its origins and its most modest of readings, the home can be perceived as the fundamental unit of community, integrating domestic life with civicness. In recent times, the extreme commodification of property, excessive barriers of cost and bureaucracy and prescriptive developments which don’t allow for adaptability, have led to the simplification of the home as a purely domestic and singular entity. The home’s potential as a catalyst for publicness has been erased and everyday interaction with our immediate community has hugely diminished.

The panel and public audience will be invited to explore these premises and reimagine how the housing sector can build proactive, equitable and sustainable housing which creates and empowers communities and encourages methods for living creatively together.

Panelists include Jonny Anstead (TOWN), Juliet Can (London CLT, Stour Trust), Adam Khan (Adam Khan Architects), Eleanor Margolies (Rural Urban Synthesis Society) and Marie Bak Mortensen (Create London). Hosted and chaired by Studio naama.
