Mert Eyiler, the architect and founder of MeMaLondon, came to Tarlabaşı a few years ago due to the housing crisis in Istanbul and the world's metropolises. We would like to start the discussion on the existing building stock that is the subject of the axometric drawing. Our aim is to develop a discussion that starts from a building, to a building block, and from there to the city.
We are aware that Istanbul (Tarlabaşı) and London (Brixton) are very different places with very different physical characteristics, both culturally and topographically. However, what attracts us here is the commonality of both being migration points.
How can architecture be fluid instead of adopting an attitude that stops, freezes and stagnates everything? Will crime-ridden areas of other London cities, such as Brixton and Elephant&Castle, be able to adapt to fluidity? Or what would this fluidity look like?
Our main speakers will be Zeynep Beyza Gergin (MeMALondon) and Johannah Fening, joined by Mert Eyiler (MeMALondon, online from Istanbul), Murat Şanal (SanalArc, online from Istanbul) and Selva Gürdoğan (Superpool, online from Copenhagen).
The essence of this event is to get people from different places with different backgrounds to think and discuss immigration areas/politics, gentrification, healthy/safe/quality housing areas. We aim to inspire individuals to reflect and trigger the creative thinking process through presentations, productive conversations with speakers and collaboration with VitrALondon.
